If you’re searching for a guitar lesson book you are probably fairly early on your journey to being a guitar master. This article focuses on the right approach to your guitar study, an appropriate practice routine, and dedication to long-term results. While reading this article keep its good to begin formulating an idea of your particular goals.

Achieving Long-term Results with a Guitar Lesson Book

Beginner guitar students often start with a fiery passion unmatched by nearly any other artist. They immerse themselves in their music often strumming for hours and hours. This is what I like to call the rocket approach and as we all know what goes up must come down. There comes a day where results are not coming as quickly as they once did and beginner guitar players start to lose faith in their ability or just flat out lose interest. No matter how much you try to force it, your fingers just won’t listen. When you start your journey toward guitar greatness keep in mind your guitar lesson book wasn’t written to teach you how to play in a day. You need to understand learning a new instrument takes some time regardless of the teacher. It is easy to feel a little disappointed along the way as results sometimes come in spurts with several days or even weeks where it seems like nothing is happening for you. The key is persistence. Like any thing else in life talent has much less to do with success than determination. Break that guitar lesson book out every day and spend some time moving foward!

A Proper Practice Schedule With Your Guitar Lesson Book

One thing you need to understand before you begin your learning process is learning a guitar means teaching certain muscles to do new things they aren’t accustomed to. They aren’t going to like you too much if you try to do that one or two days a week 2 hours at a time. Instead, plan your practice sessions in advance for small periods of time. A good start would be 20 minutes a day 4 or 5 nights a week. That gives you time to warm up a bit and play a few tunes without wearing yourself out physically or mentally.

Breaking Away From the Guitar Lesson Book

Learning to play the guitar is different for everyone. Everyone can follow the same set of theories yet have their own individual style develop simply because that’s what music is all about. Don’t be disappointed if you have your own personal sound. That’s a good thing! When you feel comfortable enough to put down the guitar lesson book and break free of the “rules” you will discover a whole new world opening up to you. Try listening to new styles of music even though they may not directly appeal to you. You may hear something you like.

One thing about learning to play the guitar that never changes is you’re always learning. You may not go out and buy a guitar lesson book every other day but you might find after five years of playing you find a neat new trick that makes you faster or sound better. I think that’s one of the greatest things about playing the guitar that really sets it apart from other instruments.

Line

One of the things that both both beginner and advanced players alike need to know is how to read music. Most times this means starting out with learning a few chords; more specifically power chords. Chords are like the foundation of any song you’ve heard or that you are going to write. A lot of very popular pop and rock songs revolve around a few very simple to play chords. Once you have the basic chords down you can start to mix in a few scales and licks producing a totally unique sound.

Line

So to give you a good idea of where to start

Learn a few scales and practice them every day

Learn a few chords and practice them every day

That probably seems a little too simple but once you can play a few scales and a few chords without looking at your fingers you have the perfect base to learn any style of guitar whether its blues, jazz, rock, pop, heavy metal, etc. Learning on your own will take you a fair amount of time but you can streamline the process especially if you take live or online guitar lessons. Even if you don’t want to take lessons its a good idea to invest in a guitar lesson book so you can start to see how songs come together.

First time guitar players often don’t know where to begin. The idea of shredding up and down the neck of a guitar at break neck pace while jumping around a stage or singing a song seems nearly impossible. Players will often start to search for a guitar lesson book to learn the best methods for playing the guitar. Nowadays that doesn’t even require a trip to the video store. You can find more than your fair share of information online including some really great video courses.

In the video below pay special attention to the artist’s hands on the neck of his guitar. He goes into detail on finger position and the reason it is so important. Starting with your fingers in the wrong areas of the neck means reduced speed. If you are concentrating on where your fingers are its difficult to keep rhythm at the same time.

Line

Line

This is a pretty decent video and very sound advice for starting players but as I mentioned earlier there are entire video courses online dedicated to learning to play the guitar. I recommend you check out Jamorama for some of the greatest online lessons. The course includes material for beginning players all the way to advanced. Unlike other courses this one also includes a guitar lesson book to go along with the video series. It fits together perfectly making learning an easy task.
